Self-portrait / Ukraine
2020-2022

Performance, photo

The main object of this series is the deconstructed flag, which represents both identities: Ukrainian and queer. The flag is sewn from 6 separate pieces of fabric used for the rainbow flag. Two parts of the flag are longer, blue and yellow, colors of the Flag of Ukraine. On the one hand, it is a critique of Ukraine as a country that is still unable to ensure equal human rights for its citizens. On the other hand, it is a personal work about artist's identity that had to be hidden for some time. In this case, the human body becomes the foundation for a country that can both elevate and destroy the individual.
